Our Expectations of Members
-
Keep the community a safe place. Treat others with respect, always, and bring up any safety concerns immediately to a member of the STEMeIn team.
-
Learn. Take a look at the resources available in the resource center, join our calls with experts, and ask questions in our investors-only Slack group.
-
Make investments. The minimum investment in our deals is $1,000, and investors are encouraged to invest at least $3,000 per year. While not mandatory, building a portfolio of companies is advised to have the best potential for returns. Once you commit to an investment, you’re in.
-
Help companies. Provide product feedback at the alpha/beta stage, make customer and employee intros, offer any functional expertise you can provide, and generally be willing to lend a hand to founders. With a community of our size, we have the unique ability to provide real value to the companies we invest in – let’s leverage that to help our community get into the best deals. As a guideline, each investor should strive to help at least once per month.
-
Support STEM Education in Africa. This community is built upon the foundational belief that Africa focused founders have the power to create valuable businesses that compete on a global scale. Everyone should be able to build an angel portfolio, regardless of background. We want to do everything we can to further the rise of technology startups that solve real problems and provide jobs in their communities. To this end, all angel investors will have the opportunity to donate up to 1% of their profits from a distribution to a local STEM organization that will sponsor scholarships to help individuals pursue training and careers in STEM.
